Protect the life of your siding 10 in easy steps!

Here are a few tips from OLYMPIC SIDING to help keep your siding in great shape for years to come.

Siding Care Checklist

  1. Protect your siding by repainting it before the existing paint fails. Your exposure to the elements and climate conditions will impact the longevity of your paint.
  2. Maintain your caulking by replacing missing or damaged caulk around joints, seams, doors and windows.
  3. Keep the painted siding surface free of mold, mildew and algae.
  4. To insure that water drains away from your house, maintain a one-inch per foot slope away from the foundation.
  5. Avoid excessive water exposure to the siding by directing your sprinklers away from the siding and trim.
  6. Keep your gutters in good working order and clear of debris so that water is diverted away from the house.
  7. Avoid extreme heat exposure to the siding by keeping barbecue grills and other combustible materials away from the house.
  8. Keep your trees, shrubs and plants trimmed and maintained at least one foot from the siding.
  9. Don't allow garden mulch, bark dust or debris to build up around the side of your house. Keep a six-inch clearance from the ground to any wood siding or trim.
  10. Inspect your home for damage once or twice a year (see inspection checklist).
