Protect the life of your siding 10 in easy steps!
Here are a few tips from OLYMPIC SIDING to help keep your siding in great shape for years to come.
Siding Care Checklist
- Protect your siding by repainting it before the existing paint fails. Your exposure to the elements and climate conditions will impact the longevity of your paint.
- Maintain your caulking by replacing missing or damaged caulk around joints, seams, doors and windows.
- Keep the painted siding surface free of mold, mildew and algae.
- To insure that water drains away from your house, maintain a one-inch per foot slope away from the foundation.
- Avoid excessive water exposure to the siding by directing your sprinklers away from the siding and trim.
- Keep your gutters in good working order and clear of debris so that water is diverted away from the house.
- Avoid extreme heat exposure to the siding by keeping barbecue grills and other combustible materials away from the house.
- Keep your trees, shrubs and plants trimmed and maintained at least one foot from the siding.
- Don't allow garden mulch, bark dust or debris to build up around the side of your house. Keep a six-inch clearance from the ground to any wood siding or trim.
- Inspect your home for damage once or twice a year (see inspection checklist).
