Siding damage is not always apparent.
Just because your siding appears fine from a visual inspection doesn’t mean that there aren’t problems lurking under the surface. Look at the following two photos. The homeowner asked us to replace their aging, 60 year old cedar siding with Hardieplank because paint wasn’t adhering to the cedar. At first glance, the siding looked worn but otherwise fine.
On the surface, the siding on this corner appeared fine...
...but water had been getting behind the siding for years and years due to a faulty gutter.
We performed an in-depth inspection and determined that there were several problem areas, including one particularly damaged corner. In order to fix the problem we removed the damaged section…
…and installed new wall sheathing.
We then applied Tyvek HomeWrap and repaired the gutter, fascia, and soffit.
The Hardieplank siding went on next.
With a fresh coat of paint, the house looks as good as new–and without the problems lurking beneath the surface.
Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away–it’ll make it worse
In this project, a deck above the wall was shedding water behind the siding. The original siding didn’t show excessive damage but was rotten underneath.
We repaired the damage and installed a decorative but functional gutter that redirected the water away from the siding.
Small leaks can turn into large problems.
These examples showed no visible signs of damage until the siding was removed, exposing what the Northwest’s rainy weather can do to your home if neglected too long.
